Manawatu Grain Seed and Saddlery was the big winner in last night's Feilding Excellence in Business Awards.
The South St business, owned by Chris and Sharon Malcolm, won the supreme award and best rural business category.
"It's an honour to win," Mr Malcolm said at the awards last night. "My team works really hard. Winning this is just fantastic."
Keen equestrians, Mr and Mrs Malcolm opened the business almost three years ago. The store sells horse saddlery, bird seed, pet food and supplies, grass seed and fertiliser.
NZ Retailers Association regional manager Brian Finlayson said the nominees were judged on the quality of customer service.
"They [Manawatu Grain Seed and Saddlery] stood out. They had the winning edge. Customer service was beyond excellent."
As a mystery shopper, he visited the store to inquire about dog food and was impressed by employee Jo Henderson's service.
"She acknowledged me straight away and she kept the rapport going."
