Jazz up your table, mantle or door when giving thanks this weekend. Interior decorator Mati Edwards has some advice if you're having a 'Martha moment' and want to festoon your home with the bounty of the earth for Thanksgiving celebrations.
"Use found materials," advises Edwards. She looks for interesting pieces when hiking in the pastoral and wooded areas around her southwestern Ontario home. "I like to pick up sticks and stones. I look for branches that have fallen off trees and have interesting shapes."
Edwards also advises looking for decorating materials at the local farmer's market, garden centre or even grocery store.
Start outside by planting some mums in rich colours; be sure to get the 'hearty' variety if you want them to last through Canada's cold winters. Otherwise, just repot mums or asters into funky containers that work well with your outdoor décor. (If you don't have any really cool ones now, put 'go to garage sales' on your list for next spring and summer to acquire some.)
