Time to Stock up on Peony Roots for Fall Planting
Fall is the best time to for planting peonies either as bare-root plants, or from nursery containers, in order to give the plants a chance to become established before bloom time in the spring.

Peonies do well in USDA zones 2-8 and can grow in the same spot for over 50 years. “The great thing about peonies, easy-care perennials, is they come back year after year, producing gorgeous, fragrant flowers each spring.” said Therese Sprauer, co-owner of Brooks Gardens.
Planting Peonies:
Prepare the planting site by digging a hole about 20″ x 20 inches, then fill the hole back in with the spaded soil. Plant the peony root with the ‘eyes’ (buds) up. The roots are placed near ground-level; cover the root with only 1″ to 2″ of soil. Water your newly planted peony root.
