Courthouse garden has blossomed and more improvements planned

By Scott Dreiling Extension Master Gardener

This year, the Miami County Courthouse Garden’s third full year, may have been the toughest on our garden’s plants, but many improvements have been made.

If you read my article a couple of weeks ago, you know gardens in Miami County took a pretty big hit this year. We had a wet and cool spring followed by one of the hottest and driest summers. Summer is also most people’s busiest time of the year. That means volunteers can be hard to come by. Let’s just say the weather kept us scrambling all summer.

If you’re a gardener, you know it’s an ever-changing thing. Some plants make it, some don’t. Some grow a little bigger or slower than expected, and they need to be moved. At the courthouse, we have made, and are in the process of making, many changes.

First, you’ll notice many of our border plants are disappearing. Chalk this one up as a learning experience for everyone as the little arborvitaes just aren’t dealing well
