For spring, think pink daffodils

Pink is not the first color gardeners think of when the subject of daffodils arises. People simply think daffodil and see yellow, perhaps with some white thrown into the mix.

But pink is such a springy color and so pretty in flower beds, it seems a shame to overlook it when choosing daffodils. Consider expanding your daffodil palette with the addition of pink.

This arises because October is the great month for selecting and buying daffodils. Visit any garden center and you will see an array of boxes filled with various kinds of flower bulbs, from tiny ones like crocuses and snowdrops to big and bold daffodils, tulips and hyacinths. Specialty catalogs feature pages of beautiful flowers grown from bulbs.

And while the dominant color among daffodils is always yellow, you will also see in these boxes and on these pages, varieties of pink daffodils such as Pink Charm, Salome, Chromacolor and Pink Parasol.

Though called pink, these daffodils tend to have pink on the central cup that is surrounded by white, cream or palest yellow petals.
