Bergenfield artist's work is on display
Many of Gleisen’s paintings are still life arrangements of tulips, iris, daffodils or pinks from her garden or those of neighbors. Others are scenes from trips by the artist to the shore or to the English countryside.
Miniatures – 5-by-7 inch paintings – figure prominently in the exhibit, and Gleisen said they are her most popular pieces, especially as gift items.
"There is always room for a miniature, on a desk or shelf," Gleisen said. "It can be difficult to find space to hang a large painting."
Gleisen said that she has loved miniatures from childhood, an interest that has remained with her.
"Anything small and tiny," she said, "even today."
A Bergenfield resident for 10 years, Gleisen began her painting career in 1986 at the urging of her husband, who recognized her love of colors and garden arrangements as "a skill that she was not putting to good use."
Gleisen enrolled in an adult school class and soon became involved with the Hackensack Art Club, where she is now a member.
