American Cancer Society Spreads Hope With Daffodils

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)_ Daffodils, the first flowers of spring, mean hope for many and the American Cancer Society wants to bring that hope a little early this year. Hope for a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

The organization has begun accepting orders for its annual Daffodil Days fundraiser. Volunteers, companies, and organizations throughout the community will distribute thousands of the yellow flowers in an effort to spread hope for a world where cancer is not a life-threatening issue.

And for the fourth year, merchants at the Brookwood Shopping Center, 29th and Oakley in Topeka, are trying to help out. They will be accepting advance Daffodil orders and many of them are offering discounts and coupons with each order.

"Our community is making a difference in the fight against cancer, one daffodil at a time," said Sarah Elsen-Yberra, Daffodil Days co-chair in Shawnee County.

"Thanks to the overwhelming support we receive, the American Cancer Society is saving lives by helping people stay well, by helping them get well, by finding cures and by fighting back against the disease. We are sharing hope and making progress against cancer."
