Fight To Save Jobs At Clover Bottom Developmental Center
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville's Clover Bottom Developmental Center cares for some of the most critically ill people in Tennessee. Governor Phil Bredesen wants to close down, but there is a last-ditch effort to save jobs.
Closing the facility would save millions, but some believe the residents could die in the process.
There's a last-ditch effort to keep Clover Bottom open longer, and save hundreds of state jobs.
There are 108 residents at Clover Bottom Developmental Center. The plan is to move the people into 30 group homes, spread out over the area and phase out the facility. There's concern about moving people in a fragile state, and not keeping them with the same employees who have been in their care for years.
The new group homes would be run by private companies, so 432 state employees would lose their jobs. The state employees union is pushing to make the homes, state run.
The state insists they've moved residents to other facilities, with positive results. The main thing is they believe there's a cheaper way of taking care of the people.
