Thrills: Life's a race at this downtown Milford store
In a basement storefront on Main Street in downtown Milford, drivers maneuver cars around a figure eight track, seeing who has the best skills.
Kids and adults alike tap into the thrill of speed. No driver's license is needed, however. This racing is shrunk down to a smaller scale. It's slot car racing on a 1:32 scale.
Clover Leaf Racing opened this summer in Milford by Mike Stott and Art Roberts. According to Stott, Milford was a perfect location for scale racing, because there are not many places in metro Detroit to race the 1:32 slot cars.
The owners met racing slot cars and quickly realized a storefront would be a boon for slot car racing enthusiasts.
“We've been racing slot cars for a while together. We realized no one was promoting slot car racing,” said Stott. “We're trying to introduce people. “We're here to promote the hobby. We'll get the business from there.”
The response to Clover Leaf Racing, so far, has been great, he said.
