Maggie impresses at Epworth and District Flower Club

EPWORTH and District Flower Club welcomed Maggie Wootton of West Butterwick to their first meeting following the summer break.

Mrs Wootton, the Chairman of Scunthorpe Flower Club, used an assortment of galvanised containers to demonstrate how a ‘supermarket bunch’ could be arranged to make interesting displays in the home.

Eight different designs used a range of flowers including white and deep purple gladioli, pink roses, lilies, chrysanthemums and carnations.

Mrs Wootton also used gypsophila, skeleton leaves and various colours of sisal as fillers because of the current shortage of foliage, following last year’s hard winter.

Different arrangements were created using sunflowers and tiny daisy chrysanthemums in pale green, yellow and white.

Her final arrangement was made using a long galvanised bath containing dark purple gladioli, bamboo, orange carnations, similar shaded roses, small dark red carnations and dark red sisal.

The evening also featured a raffle and refreshments with members agreeing the Christmas meeting should be a visit to Doddington Hall, near Lincoln, on Saturday, December 10.
