Salome faces adversity on path to Crew

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Everybody is pushing Angel Salome these days. There's fellow Brewers catching prospect Jonathan Lucroy, pushing to pass Salome on the depth chart. Then there's Brewers farm director Reid Nichols, pushing Salome to show the organization that he has the work ethic it takes to make it to the Major Leagues."I think he's learning that the game requires a little more work," Nichols said. "The competition has caught up to him a little bit, and he's having to compete for a job, and it changes when all of a sudden you're not the man." Salome has been the man behind the plate in the Brewers' system since they made him a fifth-round Draft pick in 2004 out of George Washington High School in New York City, the same school that produced Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez.
