Division III still looks like a two-team race between Scottsdale Saguaro and Tucson Sabino. But because of Saguaro's slip to No.5 seed, those teams will meet in the state semifinals. It will likely be Saguaro's only competitive game against D.III competition this year.
Otherwise, Saguaro's offense is cruising through D.III as if is playing against air.
Here is a look at Thursday's quarterfinals:
Saguaro (9-2) at No.4 Queen Creek (10-1): Saguaro has scored 611 points, and that includes a 65-0 loss to Scottsdale Chaparral the final week of the regular season when coach John Sanders held out most of his starters. It scored 70 points against both Phoenix Thunderbird and Phoenix Arcadia, both still playing football. D.J. Foster is a man amongst boys at this level. Queen Creek has had a nice little season. But for Queen Creek to beat Gilbert Williams Field only 22-20 and to see Williams Field lose last week in the first round to Thunderbird tells me one thing: Queen Creek will likely end up like all the rest, boat-raced by the Sabercats in the end.
