Films to boost 'location vacations'

The release of a series of blockbuster movies in 2012 is set to boost "location vacation" tourism at various UK sites.

The village of Castle Combe in Wiltshire is poised for an upturn in visitors having been chosen as a location in the Steven Spielberg film War Horse.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Emily Watson, the movie is based on a children's novel set in the First World War.

Following the release of War Horse, another film with English locations - The Woman in Black - will be coming to UK cinemas.

Featuring Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe, the film included scenes shot at the Bluebell Railway in East Sussex, the Colne Valley Railway in East Anglia and the Tudor palace of Layer Marney Tower near Colchester in Essex.

Around summer 2012, Jack the Giant Killer, starring Bill Nighy and Ewan McGregor, will be released. Locations include Hampton Court Palace in south west London and at Norwich Cathedral.

Films that came out at the tail end of 2011 are also expected to lead to an influx of tourists to locations.
