“Together we can make a difference” is the powerful statement from the Walpole Woman’s Club, a dedicated and unique group of women who volunteer their time and efforts to make a difference in the Walpole Community.
In 1895, the first president, Martha Allen Meltzer, invited a group of women to be members of the organization dedicated to promoting social, intellectual and civic interests for the community. (At that time, the Walpole Woman’s Club was inaugurated into the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs.)
Terry Ryan, the 2009-11 Walpole president, continues the tradition 115 years later. Ryan is a former army nurse who served as a first lieutenant in Korea. She is no stranger to serving others as she leads this year’s members and their activities. Ryan says, “I enjoy working with people and am right there to help.”
She leads by example. In cooperation with Applebee’s, she organized a fund-raiser flapjack breakfast to buy a large flag for the downtown Walpole common. Over 100 people bought tickets and enjoyed a nourishing breakfast served by six volunteer board members of the Woman’s Club.
