"Winter is the most important time to pay attention to your garden," says longtime Pacific Northwest gardener Sojourner Smith. "First of all, it's important to remember that weeds grow all year here."

"Weeds keep growing even in cool weather and if we hold at 45 degrees for five days or so, you'll even get a good crop of germination. With the soil fluffy, winter is a great time for weeding.
