Bud'n Bloom Garden Club
Members of the Bud'n Bloom Garden Club recently met and carpooled to the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens for their annual Chrysanthemum Show. They toured the beautiful Victorian Conservatory which opened in 1900. The glass house was designed by Lord and Burnham based on the Crystal Palace in the Kew Gardens of England. It is a national historic site, education center and tourist destination. There are exotic horticulture treasurers from all around the world. There is a palm house, cloud forest area, orchid house, ivy and herb section and even a begonia house. The plants were spectacular. Members were dazzled by the chrysanthemums, especially one variety that was 6 feet tall.
The business meeting was conducted by President Judy Wilcox in the conservatory amid the lush vegetation.
Individuals were thanked for their help in the clean-up of the gardens at Barker Library which is one of the club's civic projects. Arrangements were made for several members to work on another civic project making festive red bows to decorate the Barker Commons Gazebo for the holidays. Hostesses for next year's meetings were chosen. There was a discussion of the group's annual plant sale that will be held in May. There will be a workshop coming up this winter for member volunteers taught by Penny Deakin on how to transfer seedlings into bigger pots in preparation for their perennial sale.
