Testifying in Stratford Superior Court on Tuesday, pediatrician Dr. David Warren said persistent crying in a child is the most significant trigger leading to injury in young children.
Warren, accepted by the court an expert in pediatric and emergency medicine and as an expert in child abuse and child injuries, was the final witness called by Crown prosecutor Michael Murdoch in the case involving the Jan. 17, 2010 death of baby Skyla Rivet.
Earlier testimony indicated the baby's father, Robert Rivet, was the last of the child's parents to be with her when she became limp and began gasping for breath around midnight Jan. 14 at the family's Mitchell apartment.
Warren's testimony as an attending and consulting physician in the assessment and treatment of the month-old baby at Children's Hospital in London largely corroborated evidence provided last week by two pathologists who determined death was caused by cardio-respiratory arrest and complications brought on by severe force to the baby's head.
