Mistletoe:

he language of flowers is beautiful.

And "The Language of Flowers," by Vanessa Diffenbaugh (2011) is beautifully told.

I bought the book based, almost entirely, on the title alone.

I loved it.

The Victorian language of flowers was used to convey romantic expressions. Young men and ladies in courtship would exchange flowers, each with a particular meaning: honeysuckle for devotion, aster for patience, and red roses for love.

But for Victoria Jones, it's been more useful in communicating grief, mistrust, and solitude. After a childhood spent in the foster care system, she is unable to get close to anybody. Her only connection to the world is through flowers and their meanings.
